Brain Exercises with Chess

Class Description: Participants will learn chess skills for fun which will enhance the participants’ cognitive abilities. Interactive game-plying session with instructor feedback will strengthen the participants’ chess skill levels. This enrichment class provides an overview of chess, including the chessboard, the chess pieces and their movement. Chess strategy and tactics will be discussed. Chess opening theory, gambits, traps  and popular moves and traps will be covered in this enrichment. Chess games will be played after instructions with instructor feedback.

Class Materials: A book entitled “A Kid’s Guide to Chess” will be used for this enrichment. Chessboards and pieces will be core materials used.  Additional chess books will be used by the instructor.
